Breastfeeding Clinic? Use existing resources

Last month there was much fanfare about a new Breastfeeding Clinic that opened in Brantford, Ontario.  While we realize that some mothers need help with breastfeeding, we question why the numerous health care supports that already exist in Ontario cannot meet this need.

We have obstetricians for a reason.
We have obstetrics nurses for a reason.
We have pediatricians for a reason.
We have pediatric nurses for a reason.
We have local Health Units for multiple (?) reasons.

In her next report, Auditor General Bonnie Lysk may have to add this one to the list of improvements needed to better administer Ontario taxpayers’ dollars.
