Federal Budget: middle class lifted up on eagle’s wings?

The recent federal budget did a good job of picking winners and losers.  After all the bravura during last summer’s election about the middle class needing a lift, they aren’t on the winning side of the ledger when compared to big earners.

Prof. William Watson, McGill University economist says in the link below that the following chosen few will do well:

  • NHL free agents
  • Construction and engineering company executives and shareholders
  • Green tech
  • Social service providers to First Nations
  • Constitutional and public inquiry lawyers
  • Cultural industries and the CBC

“As an economist I’m not apposed to people doing well.  More power to them, so long as it comes via competition, not sweet deals with departments/ministries.”
