Ontario’s municipal elections: what won?

In too many jurisdictions, stupid won.

  • The uninformed.
  • The ill-informed.
  • The unmotivated.

And, as an astute caller to a radio station put it, “the entrenched incumbent.”

To say that low voter turnout is due to a municipal candidate’s lack of allegiance to a political party is an attempt to excuse the above reasons.  A candidate’s platform contains either an explicit or an implicit link to one or more parties.

Are you convinced yet that we need a face-lift for democracy?

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

– Winston Churchill
