Public Sector Must Earn It Before They Deserve It

City of Brantford councillors recently voted to give themselves a raise.  This is an example of how public servants should not view compensation.  In the public sector, compensation must be tied to the responsible use of taxpayers’ dollars, that is, government living within its current means.

Brantford’s future is bright if city council and staff understand that a $2 million deficit and a $40 million debt are unacceptable.

Here are two examples that show that they do not understand the importance of eliminating the deficit and the debt:

  1. Ongoing cost overruns of the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre
  2. Agreement in principle for the non-essential Laurier Brantford/YMCA Athletics-Recreation Complex proposal

They have not earned a raise, so they do not deserve a raise.
