Why do some drivers feel compelled to break the law and exceed the posted speed limit?
As the Olympics suggest, the purpose in life is to do things faster, higher and stronger. Our culture equates pushing the boundaries with success.
Unfortunately, that does not translate well to driving on our streets and highways. To cause a shift in how people think, the police should present medals to drivers who drive at the posted limit, follow at least three seconds behind a vehicle, and signal their turns and lane changes in advance.
We then might live smarter, healthier and longer.
